Looking online, there are lots of ways to get the seamless tiles to look nice. And they are all seamless with one another! Crazy! The pink 24x48 and 48x24 tiles are also repeating. The 48x48 tile highlighted in blue is the "main" repeating tile. The top tiles are made up of four 24x24 corner tiles. It's split up into 24x24 tiles instead of 48x48. Basically, it's like this: (to my understanding) I only understood it by actually scrutizing the default RTP. I read the documentation on it, and it was still kinda confusing. It uses a combination of 48x48 with 24x24 to get them to work. You'll be able to use this technique for almost all of the autotiles, however, such as water and walls!Īutotiles are kinda tricky in RPG Maker. For example, there's no 'move' tool, you have to marquee & transform if you want to move something, also there's some bugs where tooltips won't go away, etcĪs far as I understand it, it supports manual frame-by-frame animation using it's tile system & I could never get it to transform itself properly through tweening.A few weeks ago there was an Indie Game Dev Humble Bundle Sale where they sold a few awesome development tools for $1. A friend of mine who has both said that he preferred Pyxel Edit for tile sheets for that reason, but Aesprite for animation.Īlso got that humble bundle, pyxel's my pixel art editor of choice for the moment however it is missing an awful lot of qol improvements & functionality, at least compared to something like photoshop.

There's a free version of Pyxel Edit, but it seems like it's quite outdated.Įdit: GraphicsGale is free though, so while it's too bad it doesn't look great it's got that going for it at least.Įdit 2: I downloaded the free trial of Aesprite because I was curious how the shading thing worked and it's free, so hey! One thing I definitely noticed was that there seems to be no way to make tile sets, so you're mainly working with a single thing at once, whereas Pyxel Edit has whole tile sheets which let you make, say, an 8圆 array of 32x32 sprites. Aesprite does seem to have a free trial (although you can't save things), so it's probably worth trying it out before buying it. I enjoy using it and it works pretty well, however it can't be denied that it's missing certain features that would be really handy like dithering (or the shading mode/custom brushes that Aesprite has). I got Pyxel Edit in the game dev humble bundle, (and I got the bundle mostly since I was looking at Pyxel Edit).
